If you aren't watching Revenge, your life is Incomplete

What did we do on Wednesday nights before Revenge? The show really got almost no hype except for a few commercials and those weird ads that look like Emily Van Camp is wearing a dress made of weeds. But the show has become the most deliciously shallow treat of the fall. It is like 90210 (the old one) meets The O.C. with a little bit of Gossip Girl and any other soap opera that ever took place by the beach. It is a soap opera and it doesn't apologize for it. It doesn't require people to think, just kick back and enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I love a good thinking show but sometimes they get exhausting. I was obsessed with Lost for the first two years but then it just made me cry because it absolutely made no sense anymore and I was fairly sure the writers felt the same way. This is a show where you don't have to think and that is why it works. Amy Lee of HuffPo wrote, "Revenge" is a pleasantly brain-blanking joyride into the imaginary lives of Hamptonites out to screw each other over. While it doesn't often rise above the level of soap, you don't really want it to do anything other than what it's doing."

In case you don't know the plot Emily Van Camp plays Emily Thorne (but her real name is Amanda) and when she was five her hot dad was framed by his rich friends for killing all these people in a plane crash. He was sent to jail and she was put in foster care or some children's institution and then Juvenile Detention. Then finally she comes into her father's millions (did he die in prison? I'm not sure). Her father also leaves her this amazing wooden box that holds every single secret of the plot against her father and pretty much how to take revenge on all her father's enemies (quite a box.) I guess she toils around for a few years and trains with some revenge expert in Japan and then eventually decides it is time to execute her plot. So she dies her hair blond and gets all hot and buys a house in the Hamptons and then starts to take down these WASPy bitches one at a time. Amber Valetta got it bad. Girl fell out a window on to a cab but lived somehow.  Of course, none of them seem to recognize her even though she has blond hair again. In this world people look entirely different than they did as children. Plus there is romance and a party literally everyday. I think the show was supposed to start in May and ends on the 4th of July and there has literally been at least one party a day.

Now part of what makes this show so good is the great albeit weird cast. First of all we have Emily Van Camp as the lead. Now I have liked her since she was on Everwood but did I expect she would ever get her own show? Not really. But she is good for this part as she is so composed while she ruins people's lives and you can't ever really tell if she has emotions. Then we have Madeleine Stowe as the matriarch of the richest and evilest family in the Hamptons (even more so than the Seinfelds.) Madeline Stowe was an early 90s "it" girl after her roles in Last of the Mohicans and Short Cuts. This seems like a bit of a step down after working with the Daniel Day Lewis but she is so pitch perfect in this part that you can't imagine anyone else doing it. Then Nick Wechsler (who some of you may remember from Roswell) plays the local owner of the bar who was Amanda's childhood best friend but doesn't recognize her anymore even though his dog, who was actually her dog, freaks out every time he sees his former owner. And then Eric from Gossip Girl decided he wasn't getting enough action on that show so he decided to go play someone else's brother on this show and put his horribly annoying Hamptons accent to good use. Then Gabriel Mann who had a career for like five seconds in the late 90's (you may recall his performance in Josie & the Pussycats) plays a billionaire tech entrepreneur who knows all of Amanda's secrets and is sort of her sidekick. Then add a bunch of other young hot people and you've got a show. Anyway, if you just need some juicy fun, this is your show.

The Fashion of Kristen Stewart and the other Twilight Actresses

Okay, I know I just said vampires are losing their allure but that doesn't mean Twilight isn't still hot. And the actresses playing these vampires or vampire wannabes are super hot and have been sporting some awesome dresses this week as they promote the hell out of Breaking Dawn Part 1.

But honestly the night really belongs to Kristen Stewart. Though she would obviously always rather be wearing her hoody and converse sneakers, the girl rocks a short dress. I mean with legs like that, how could you not?
Though she looks good in a long dress too. Plus these guys on your sides doesn't hurt either.

Cool and casual

And if you haven't seen this amazing parady video of how to learn public speaking from Kristen Stewart then your life is less than wonderful.

Snow White is just so hot right now

Vampires are so yesterday. Now it is all about fairy tales, in particular Snow White. In addition to the show Once Upon Time which features Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White there are not one but two films coming out about the pale girl with the super red lips.

First up is Snow White and The Huntsman starring the awesome Kristen Stewart as the fair lass. This one really looks cool because Snow White isn't rescued by a prince in this one but is taught to be a fighter by the huntsman (who then probably. And then Charlize Theron plays the Wicked Witch and looks awesome. It looks like we really get to see why she is just so darn evil and then this one.

And then there is Mirror, Mirror which initially I was also super excited about until I saw the trailer. I'm not sure if Julia Roberts actually read the script before she signed on. I don't even know if she was aware of the fact that she was in the movie. And they have newcomer Lily Collins (Phil's daughter)in the role of Snow White but they have literally made her look ridiculous. She practically has a unibrow. And then Armie Hammer pops up but he looks like a cartoon.

Frankly the trailer for SW & the Huntsman kicks Mirorr, Mirror's ass. I mean Julia Roberts' queen appears to be on drugs and Charlize Theron could totally kick her ass.

The War Horse trailer makes me cry and its because I have a big ol' crush on an old dude named John Williams

Horses. They just get me every time. The trailer for War Horse, Stephen Speilberg's latest cinematic masterpiece, based on the play of the same name is coming out in December (just in time for the Oscars) and it looks a-mah-zing. Of course, any kind of animal always makes me cry and then throw in some young men going off to war and I'm balling. Plus every damn shot in the trailer is just beautiful. But what really gets me is the score in the trailer which has to of course be by the brilliant John Williams. I'm a weirdo that likes film scores. It gives me a lot to talk about with geeky teenage boys so that is a plus.

Anyway, John Williams   This is the man after all that came up with the two notes that made people afraid to go in the water (Jaws.) He also did Jurassic Park, Hook (my favorite), Far and Away, Star Wars, Saving Private Ryan, E.T. and at least a dozen others. John Williams has made you enjoy movies more. Anyway, War Horse looks amazing. There is a really awesome horse, like Seabiscuit awesome, and some young people and everyone looks very ruddy and is standing in a field. Who doesn't love that?

I am a Candy Addict and this is why

My friend Ashleigh has been begging me to write this for months so here it goes. I am a candy addict. Now, I know what you're thinking. All women love chocolate. No, no. Chocolate is boring and normal. Everyone likes chocolate but there are only some that are obsessed with pure sugar. I'm talking the stuff that drives dentists crazy (and I would know. My dentist looks like I shot his dog every time I see him. It is more upsetting when a dentist says he is disappointed in you than your parents. And I was supposed to be a doctor.)
I don't know why they used Hansel & Gretel as a warning for children. They had a plan.

It definitely started when I was a child. I don't think my parents gave me more candy than other children but for some reason I just decided this was something that was not a treat to me, but needed to be part of my diet. The idea of only eating a lot of candy one day a year (Halloween) was preposterous! I think it had to do with my one way of rebelling from my parents ( I was a bit of a goody two-shoes). Anyway, I eventually became addicted. As I say, at least it's not crack.

And you would think maybe I would have grown out of this in adulthood but alas, no. I carry Nerds in my purse. I push children out of the way in candy stores. And speaking of candy stores, living in New York hasn't helped. One of my favorite places in the city ever is Dylan's Candy Bar, founded by genius Dylan Lauren. It's colorful, sweet, has my favorite kinds of candy and only plays songs with the words candy in it. I could live without all the hyper children but we can't win them all. Oh and then the other day I discovered the new FAO Schwartz Sweetz cafe which is actually insane. It is Dylan's Candy Bar on crack. Willy Wonka would literally have told the owners to tone it down a bit. There were nerds boxes bigger than my heads. It was mind blowing and intriguing.

Like she eats candy?

She'll probably start making Skinny Candy.

Girl after my own heart.

Yes, someday I would like to eat less candy and it will be difficult to discipline my children in this area (especially if all of my teeth have fallen out) but we all have struggles to overcome.

Now as for my favorite kinds of candy, I'm glad you ask.
Sour Patch Kids: Classic. Though you have to make sure they aren't too moist which is always a risk when you buy in bulk.

Bleep-bleeps! So good but not very attractive to eat. And they do hurt your mouth after a bit.

Just pure sugar plus a stick made out of sugar that you put the sugar on.  Genius.

This is my weird candy. For some reason I love this licorice with the hard candy shell. Most people hate Good & Plenty.

Tiny Tarts! Delicious and tiny!

Possibly my favorite but very hard to find.
So delicious but kill your tongue.

They used to be more tart and now they are more sweet but still excellent.

Another classic.
